The Equality Party

Equality is better for everyone.

Happy Holidays – and a massive thank you!

As we come to the end of our first year as the Equality Party, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has joined us, campaigned with us, supported us, and believed in what we are building together.

In just one year, we have grown from an idea into a movement rooted in the demand for equality and opportunity for all. None of this would be possible without our members, volunteers, supporters, and allies.

We look ahead to 2026 with determination and optimism — a year of continued growth, stronger organisation, and winning more elections to deliver real change!

Wishing you a very happy Christmas / Hanukkah / Yule / Kwanzaa / Bodhi Day / Omisoka / year-end celebration.

Wherever and however you mark this time of year, we wish you peace, joy, and solidarity — and we will continue our fight for equality in 2026!

Why not give the gift of Equality?

This Christmas or Holiday period, why not give a year’s membership to someone you love? Then you will know they are supporting equality and standing up to dismantle hate and drive inclusion, all year long. Thanks for your – and their – support!

Why the Equality Party?

The party already has councillors in England and Scotland, including as close to Macc as Congleton Town Council. Kay Wesley and Susan Mead are Councillors in Congleton Town Council. Kay was elected in 2019 and Susie in 2023.

They are having a huge impact on the lives of people in their areas, removing barriers for many including families, older and younger people, those in deprived areas, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ people, and minoritised groups. You can read about their work in their bi-monthly blogs on this website, or read their latest newsletter.

Who is the Equality Party?

We are a political party in England, Scotland and Wales made up of people who believe politics should work for everyone, and politicians should set aside party dogma and work together for their communities, as our councillors are already doing.

Like many people, we are alarmed at the recent rise of populism in the UK, the tendancy to blame ‘others’ (such as refugees) for problems caused by government decisions, and the use of flags and so-called ‘patriotism’ as tools of division.

Unlike the big parties you hear about in the news, we do not have billionaire backers. We are ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing. If you like the sound of this, please support us. Thank you!

We fundamentally reject the polarisation of politics, and know that British people are essentially decent, fair-minded and believe that everyone deserves a chance to thrive.

This is not a woolly, ‘let’s be nice’ strategy – when we are elected, we implement real action to make it happen – disability access schemes, community safety, action on hate crime including misogyny and homo/transphobia, better public transport, and much more.

Our goal is to get representatives elected up and down the country so that we can make real change from the grassroots, and ultimately at a national level.

We believe in a more inclusive, equitable society with diverse voices in decision-making at all levels

We aim to unite people from diverse backgrounds to fight for equal rights and opportunities, so that everyone can contribute and thrive.

We view the global climate emergency and destruction of the natural environment as both causes and consequences of inequality. A more equal world is also a more sustainable and just world for people and for Nature.

We are naturally a feminist party that believes women’s equality benefits everyone, as government and other systems that impact our lives are designed to favour a small, privileged elite – the patriarchy.

We seek to transform patriarchal structures to create fairness and opportunity for all, leading to gender, race, disability, age, LGBTQIA+ and religious equality. We are a fully inclusive party, and we believe everyone has the right to define their own gender and pronouns.

Will you join us?

Our Objectives

We want to create a society where equality leads to better politics, a thriving economy, equity of opportunity and a more harmonious community. We recognise this needs systemic and transformative change, looking at how society works and who it works for, and how politics operates. We plan to achieve this change by gaining awareness, support, votes, and elected representatives to bring about:

  • Equal representation across politics, industry, public and working life
  • A sustainable economic model that prioritises the wellbeing of people and planet
  • Equal pay and opportunity, and equality in education and childcare
  • Public services such as healthcare, social care and justice, that work for all, without discrimination
  • Media, arts and education that deliver fair and inclusive human stories
  • An end to gender-based and hate-motivated violence and abuse
Our Councillors

Kay Wesley and Susan Mead are our Town Councillors in Cheshire, blazing a trail for feminism and equality in local politics. David Renton is a (non-political) Community Councillor in Scotland. You can read about their achievements on this website in their bi-monthly Councillor Blogs.
